The Epically popular Rockband franchise by Harmonix Music System launched in November 2007. Our task was to engage an emerging fan base with in-game cinematics, a fully active social network which allowed gamers to ‘live like rockstars’ and share game experiences globally. Working on the original launch site, we created a immersive and interactive Rockband experience of the game’s high-energy and kinetic music videos.
Our Challenge was to deliver these full screen immersive in-game music videos, across a variety of online devices (FLASH enabled), without degrading the experience. Our solution was to build a site that dynamically adapts to each user experience by monitoring two criteria, network connection speed, and frame rate per second (essentially animation speed). The site would then upshift or downshift the experience to maintain optimal performance. Problem solved.
